Before diving more into the subject of fun, I think it's good to make a clear distinction between when fun is good for you and when fun is going to hurt you or others.
I have made a clear distinction between the two as being ''Evil fun'' and ''Good fun''. Let's start with the first; evil fun could be described as all fun that is ultimately not fun for others, or even harmful to yourself or others.
Good fun can be described as fun that makes others smile, makes them feel better or makes them more successful as a result of your actions.
Even though this sounds simple we tend to make evil fun decisions more often then we realise. Ever went to a party where you though you where the biggest presence, a bit tipsy/drunk and had a blast? You most likely ended up hurting someone else's night at least a little bit. Even though this doesn't sound too bad, growing this awareness can help you in both business and life.
It will start with knowing how to adjust to a small group to make them smile and have a good time. Eventually though you will realise you can be aware of what goes on in an entire company and which actions to take to make Mikey from third floor who does the paper work have a fun filled day.
In my life I have heard my mom say think before you do about a million times. But I never realised how I should have interpreted it. My interpretation was always use your brain instead of living in the moment, and I loved living in the moment so the advice got thrown in the bin. I tend to get an impulse and I have a strong need to follow it.
I realise now that I don't need to make the choice, I can live in the moment and use my brain by asking myself the question; does this ''fun'' impulse affect others or myself in a bad way in the short term and/or the long term?
If the answer is yes then it is a bad decision, if the answer is no then it's a good decision and if the answer to you is unknown it is the absolute best decision.
Why is it the absolute best decision? Simple, the unknown is a challenge and means you face fears, get out of your shell and go on an adventure. If during this impulsive decision you are faced with new choices you are yet again faced with moments where you need to ask yourself exactly the same question. This will help you evolve, meet important people in your life and grasp the definition of fun in your life and others.
Follow the fun, but be sure to ask yourself questions along the way!
